Why I Do It
I discovered my love of photography in high school. Armed with a 110 camera, I would look at things from different angles, exploring my surroundings, capturing a unique perspective. Later, I discovered light, the way it naturally falls on a subject, the way it creates contrast, it's delicate and harsh nature. Since then, I have been honing my skills and training my eye with passion and joy.
Photojournalism inspires me. The laughter, the pain, the joy, the raw honesty captured on film moves me. I take that same approach to my photojournalistic style portraiture. I believe that stiff, posed photography is just that, offering flat images lacking depth. I love to capture each individual's dynamic personality. I love to capture the little moments, in effect, freezing time. Life is not posed, it is not scripted. Photographs should not be either. The point of the session is to capture the spirit of the moment. I want you to remember life as it actually was when pouring over the photos, not how much you struggled to get everyone in an uncomfortable pose.
